Tennis Drills for Private Lessons

Most tennis coaches start out their careers by teaching private lessons. Many of them struggle to find new tennis drills to use with the students. Doing the same drills can turn away their players. Tennis pros have to constantly seek out new tennis exercises to improve their skills. Here are a few examples of quality tennis drills.

The first drill is called “Deep Shot Warm-Up”. The player and the instructor start at the opposite baselines. The player tries to hit every ball between the service line and the baseline. The instructor keeps the ball in play by hitting it back to the player. The drill ends when the player reaches 30 points. For more advanced players the instructor can place a line of balls halfway between his service line and baseline. The player has to hit all balls behind this line. As the name indicates, this is a great warm-up tennis drill.

The next tennis drill is called the “Defense Drill”. The instructor starts on the deuce side baseline. The player starts in the middle of the baseline. The player and the instructor start rallying. The instructor can hit the ball anywhere he wants to, but the player can only hit it back to the instructor on the deuce side. The instructor tries to hit a great variety of shots to the player. Also, he tries to make him run as much as possible. The player has to retrieve every ball and return it to the deuce side of the court. Once he returns 10 balls in a row, the drill is repeated from the ad side. The player can hit volleys anywhere he wants to. This tennis drill is great for footwork and for consistency. Why Tennis Strings Are So Important To Your Game

You might be surprised when I tell you that no matter how carefully you choose your tennis racket, the tennis strings are also likely to have a big impact on your game as well. The tension, material and the gauge of your strings make all the difference. A lousy string job will also make your game suffer. High quality stringing gives you an edge.

When it comes to tension of the string job, here are your options: lower tension stringing offers you more shot power, less wear and tear on your arm, but less control over your racket. The looser your strings, the farther you can hit the ball. A high tension string job gives you more control, so if you play an intense game or hit hard, this is your best choice. However prolong playing with a tightly strung racket may hurt your arm in the long run so you got to be careful.

Any racket can be strung to your requested tension, and a normal range these days is 40-70 pounds. The stiffer your frame the more tightly it can be strung. You should always consider the health of your frame and its condition first. The cross string pattern on a tennis racket creates the tension that propels the ball. Since the main strings take more tension due to their length, they need to be tighter than the cross strings (width). Read the rest of this entry »
